Our work

Food & Essentials

Food, clothing and other essential assistance provided through community outreach events in Ikorodu, with future initiatives such as the proposed Food of Life Market.

When money is short, food and basic household items are usually the first things people go without. Food & Essentials exists to put those basics within reach, so that families can meet everyday needs with dignity.

We have provided food, clothing and other essential assistance through community outreach events in Ikorodu. We are exploring future initiatives, including the proposed Food of Life Market, to make essential household items more affordable for families in need.

The challenge

For a family on a low income, the price of food and household basics decides what else is possible. When prices rise faster than income, meals get smaller and other essentials are skipped.

Going without is rarely visible from the outside, and the people most affected are often the least likely to ask for help.

What we are planning

We aim to help low-income families access affordable food and everyday necessities. Our main planned initiative is the proposed Food of Life Market, which is not currently operating.

The proposed Food of Life Market would be a subsidised community market offering essential food and household items below usual market prices. It is planned, and not yet operating.

A market would keep the ordinary dignity of choosing what your own household needs.
