Our work

Crisis relief

Emergency food, shelter support, disaster and displacement response, and help through recovery.

Important:

Please read this first

Significant Impact is not an emergency service and cannot respond immediately. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact the emergency services.

A crisis does not wait for a process. Our aim is to be useful quickly, and to still be there when the urgency has passed and the attention has moved on.

Recovery takes far longer than the emergency did, and it is where most support quietly disappears.

The challenge

Disaster, displacement and sudden loss strip away the things people rely on, often all at once and with no notice.

The help that arrives in the first week is rarely the help that is still there in the sixth month, when it is needed just as much.

What we do

We respond to immediate need, and we plan for the recovery from the start rather than treating it as someone else's problem.

We work with communities on what would make the next shock less devastating, because there usually is a next one.

  • Emergency food

Immediate food provision in a crisis.

  • Temporary shelter support

Help with somewhere safe to stay.

  • Disaster relief

Response when a community is hit suddenly.

  • Displacement support

Support for people who have had to leave home.

  • Recovery assistance

Support through the long period after the emergency ends.

  • Community resilience

Work that leaves a community better able to withstand the next shock.

Who this programme supports

  • People affected by disaster
  • People who have been displaced
  • Households in sudden crisis
  • Communities at risk of repeated shocks

What good looks like

These are what we are working towards, not achievements we are claiming. We will report against them once we have verified figures.

  • People have food and somewhere safe in an emergency.
  • Recovery support continues after the attention has moved on.
  • Communities are better prepared for the next crisis.
