Our work

Health and wellbeing

Health education, outreach, mental wellbeing, disability inclusion and help navigating services.

Important:

Please read this first

Significant Impact is not a healthcare provider and does not replace one. We do not diagnose, treat, or give medical advice. If you need medical help, please contact a qualified healthcare professional. In an emergency, contact the emergency services.

Good health is unevenly distributed, and the gap tracks poverty closely. People in hardship get ill earlier, stay ill longer, and find it harder to reach the care they need.

We work to narrow that gap where we can, and to help people reach the qualified care they are entitled to.

The challenge

Knowing what to do about your health assumes information, time, transport and confidence. Hardship takes all four.

Mental health suffers under sustained financial strain, and the people most affected are least likely to ask for help.

What we do

We share practical health information, run outreach where people already are, support wellbeing, and help people navigate services that can be difficult to enter.

Our role is to help people reach care — never to substitute for it.

  • Health education

Practical information about staying well, in plain language.

  • Medical outreach

Working with qualified providers to reach people who are not reaching services.

  • Mental wellbeing

Support for people under sustained strain, and routes to qualified help.

  • Disability inclusion

Making sure disabled people are included in everything we do.

  • Maternal and child wellbeing

Support for mothers and young children.

  • Preventative care

Encouraging and enabling the check-ups people postpone.

  • Referral support

Helping people reach the qualified care they need.

Who this programme supports

  • People facing barriers to healthcare
  • Mothers and young children
  • Disabled people
  • People experiencing mental distress
  • Older people

What good looks like

These are what we are working towards, not achievements we are claiming. We will report against them once we have verified figures.

  • People have the information they need to look after their health.
  • Fewer people postpone care they are entitled to.
  • Disabled people are included rather than accommodated as an afterthought.
  • People under strain know where to turn.
